Asolo Guided Tour

There are magical places set in natural frames of incomparable beauty, surrounded by evocative walls and dominated by enigmatic Fortresses, places that unknowingly exude a mysterious and legendary charm capable of seducing and bewitching visitors of all times.

Asolo is one of them: a  pleasant place of”asylum” and enchanted retreat.

Refuge of the heart of many illustrious people whose soul still rises today within the walls of the majestic castle or the enchanting Palaces.

Climbing up a short hill and lowering our gaze we see small plaques embedded in the pavement, in imperishable memory of the most important historical events of the picturesque village, the echo of our steps to mark its memory.

Skirting the garden of Villa Stark we make our entrance into the city bowing under the arch of Porta Loreggia.

From here we get lost in the maze of its winding lanes to meet the monuments that tell the famous and prestigious past.

Going up the porticoed Browning Street, we reach the midpoint of the village, its elegant living room: Piazza Garibaldi with the gushing Fontana Maggiore.  

From here the gaze ranges freely, lingering on the sacredness of the Cathedral of S. Maria Assunta, on the authority of the Loggia della Ragione, on the austere majesty of the Towers of the Castle and on the viability of the Fortress that can be seen in the distance.

Then flanking the colonnade of Palazzo Beltramini we descend the silent Via Canova up to Porta S. Spirito, a short stop in front of the house of the famous actress Eleonora Duse and then continue to the mystical and collected church of St. Catherine.

But behind the serene beauty of the Asolani buildings are meandering, between suggestion, superstition and reality, occult stories shrouded in mystery or legend.

Wandering around the village we will try to decipher some hermetic clues hidden in the original and extravagant decorations of some facades inhabited or crowded with strange symbols and figures.
